GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
May 28, 2008
Skipper Dave Coates opened the meeting in proper format 19:35.Roll call of officers was conducted; minutes of April’s meeting were read. Motion was made, seconded that minutes be accepted as read. Motion passed by voice vote.
REPORTS:
Disbursing: Mick Potter presented April’s Financial Report to the body. Motion was made and seconded that the Finance Report be accepted as read, motion passed by voice vote.
Membership: 36 out of 39 Members have renewed
Chaplain: Sent out 1 get well card.
Guests (Perspective members): None
COMMITTEE (S)
Skipper Coates requested a volunteer for the upcoming horseshoe tournament. L.C. Chapman will take charge.

New Business:
Skipper Coates – American Legion Baseball is an important part of the community. He requested a motion from the floor to support the team monetary. A motion was made and seconded that we donated $200.00 to the American Legion Baseball team. Motion passed by voice vote.
SKIPPERS COMMENTS:
Skipper Coates reported the following:
Dates for Liberty Call Charleston 2009 will be May 22 though 24. (error in date) Liberty Call Charleston will be held in April
Working on a local TCS Newsletter for distribution.
Thanked Bill Crenshaw for his donation of $30.00 for the Memorial Day wreath.
USS Dice reunion will be held June 24th & 25th.
Thanked all those who took part in Memorial Day Services.
Good of the Unit:
Don Pace- Asked if pics were sent with Liberty Call Charleston article to National? YES
Bill Crenshaw– Asked if we could get an article in the Columbia Newspaper? Yeaman has for action.
Jack Dayton – Spoke about the shirts for next year.
Don Pace – Chicken BBQ fundraiser set for Oct. 4th. L.C. Chapman and himself will be the chairmen.
L.C. Chapman – Have not received a price for the raffle cooker because steel prices keep fluctuating. Vendor said he’ll give a price and it will be yes or no on the spot. Cooker discussed by the body and will be readdressed at next meeting.
Post Cmdr. De Mello complemented the unit for becoming active in Post actives and thanked all for their support on Memorial Day.
Skipper Coates presented Maria Schuesssler with a certificate of appreciation and a gift certificate to her favorite Japanese restaurant.

Disbursing: Mick Potter presented March’s Financial Report to the body. Reported that the unit made a $1,181.00 profit from Liberty Call Charleston. Motion was made and seconded that the Finance Report be accepted as read, motion passed by voice vote. Paid Boy’s State donation of $200.00.
Membership: 35 out of 37 Members have renewed
Guests (Perspective members): John Nance introduced himself. .
COMMITTEE (S)
Liberty Call Charleston – Don Pace reported that the weekend went of great. The Unit came together and put on a great show. Mic Potter reported that Jack Dayton gave a $191.00 rebate from the Ship’s Store. Rick Bernard reported that Club Manager has been notified for next year’s dates, April 17 & 18 2009. Liberty Call Charleston was discussed in length by the unit, over all opinions was that we did good for the first time.

New Business:
Don Pace- At our next Chicken BBQ, we might want to challenge the FRA Sub Vets to Horseshoes Tournament. A motion was made and seconded that we challenge the Sub Vets on Saturday July 19th and Chicken BBQ on October 4th. Motion passed by voice vote.
Mic Potter – Made a motion that we give Maria Schuesssler a $50.00 gift certificate to a Japanese Restaurant and Certificate of Appreciation for every thing she did for us during Liberty Call Charleston. Motion was seconded and passed by vice vote.
Skipper Coates – Entertained a motion for the following: He’d like the Unit to adopt a measure to keep a minimum of $2,000.00 in our checking and saving accounts. To go below $2,000.00 would have to have Unit approval.
Motion was made, seconded and discussed in length by the body. Motion passed by voice vote.
Don Pace – Requested $75.00 for the purchase of a wreath for the Hobson Memorial next month, request granted by the body.
SKIPPERS COMMENTS:
Skipper Coates reported the following:
1. Want to come up with standing rules for the Unit, XO and Yeoman have for action.
2. Web Site has been up dated.
3. USS Laffey field day will be held in May.
Good of the Unit:
Don Pace- USS Hobson Memorial will be held on Sunday May 4th at 13:00 request all present to attend.
L.C. Chapman – Suggested Unit hold a Cooker Raffle Fund Raiser, he have details on cooker fro May’s meeting.

Liberty Call Charleston – Don Pace updated the body on Friday Night menus, Old Navy Breakfast and banquet. Club Manager; Marie Schuessler came in and was briefed on Liberty Call Charleston. Skipper Coates called for a final planning session on Saturday, April 12th at 13:00.

Website is up with a shopping cart for purchasers from ship’s store and pre-registration, it also has links to different sites of interest
Updated body on e-mail from TCS National.
Requested all present to pre-register if possible for Liberty Call Charleston.

Jack Dayton- showed off new ship’s store items.
Don Pace- Inform the body that Terry Scheck is not doing well, and that’s why he’s not present. Chaplain will send a card on our behalf.

Don pace requested that the unit support 1 American Legion Boy State Candidate at a cost of $200.00. A motion was made and seconded to reflex such. Motion passed by voice vote.

Skipper Coates reported the following:
Website is up with a shopping cart for purchasers.
2. Food Lion and BI-LO both have shop and share programs, where you can sign up, shop at their store and they’ll send a donation to your Non-profit Organization.
USS Hopson Memorial remembrance has been moved from April 19th to May 4th.
The American Legion will be holding a Flag Disposal Ceremony on March 22nd request all present to attend.
SEAWAVES.COM gives updates on actives Navy ships and other nautical information.
Good of the Unit:
A.J. Finely reported on Survivors benefits. If you are age 70 and have paid in for 30 years, you no longer have to pay.
Rick Bernard – Flyers and registrations forms sent to the Jacksonville Bull Session.
Terry Scheck recognized our guest Fred De Giulo, USS Mayo, WWII Veterans.
